Coaches lead the way

Ram coaches are class guys. They do such a great job with the game plan and getting the players ready. An amazing group of men, who as Coach Ted Jones said, they have been together so long they almost know what each other is thinking.

It's obvious the coaching staff has done a great job preparing the players for their opposition. I just hope they prepare players for life as well. Coach Teague knows that youngsters have a better chance of success if they go to college and I am not seeing a lot of these young men being encouraged to attend college.

College and excelling after high school starts at home. Yes, coaches have great influence over youngsters these days, but I don't think Coach Teague is ignoring academics.

There are 12 former Rams playing in college right now and at least 5-6 being recruited by colleges on current Ram team. I've personally seen several colleges in football office talking with current Rams. These guys are past the age of accountability and should be responsible young adults who do not need someone to hold their hands. Instead of pointing fingers for academic shortcomings people should first look in the mirror and not blame everyone else.

Ramfan80,

Are you sure 12 former(football)rams are currently playing in college right now? You and "review staff" sound like Al Davis,"just win baby". Come on, give me a break!"Life after high school starts at home"? Please,I think Coach Teague owe these guys who strap it on every Friday night an opportunity to earn a college degree. I know everyone can't get an athletic scholarship but he should at least be talking to those mediocre players about continuing there education. This will take them beyond measure. I think you guys are "blinded" by the wins that the coach has piled up. He has done a great job at utilizing team speed at the skill positions and raw talent. He is also the beneficiary of a "weak" conference but the best thing he can do is use his influence to get those kids in school.

If you don't think Coach Teague cares about these kids and achademics, go to Zion Baptist Church on Tuesday nights. Its easy to criticize anonymously.

It's not all about the wins. At the end of the day, the wins don't mean squat. What matters is not seeing these young kids make bad decisions and wind up in the police blotter. Anyone that thinks coach Teague does not care about these kids after Reidsville, has never sat down and talked witht the man. Maybe others need to wake up and realize some kids are beyond teaching.

I guess 12 players enrolled in college in three years is better than any coach that preceded him at Reidsville but none of those other coaches won like Coach Teague. There are some good Division III schools out there that some of his less talented players could attend to get a good solid education.

I am unaware of any academic program that he assist on Tuesday nights at Zion Baptist Church, perhaps you can enlighten me Ramfan77. Also Ramfan77, instead of allowing your heart to skip a beat by my critique of the coach then prove me wrong. Lets compare his student athletes entering college to other 2AA high schools that win with the frequency that Coach Teague has.It seems that you're all consumed with just winning or could it be that a lot of Coach Teague's talent comes from the African-American community and you could care less whether these young men attend college.

Do you think Coach Teague could win if he coached at Rockingham?

I have one question "How does a blind man know if his butt is clean?" I really need help on this one.

Well anonymous if you want to get down to the nitty gritty all your really looking at is how many go on to play football in college not how many actually go to college. To tell you the truth it sounds like you should have ent because you can't count nor pull your foot out of your mouth long enough to say something smart ... over the past 5 years for instance Jimmy has had 58 student go to college or the military .... 14 of which continued to play football but I guess you forgot about the other 44 that just went for an education!

My heart is beating just fine. Just trying to educate those who obviously aren't familiar with the Ram team and family, of which I consider myself a part.

Coach Teague initiated a joint program to have a night where students, not just football players, are able to eat and meet with tutors to get help with schoolwork and establish relationships with positive role models at Zion Baptist Church, in cooperation with First Baptist-Main Street. A few years back, he had tried to get community members to do someting similar to what Community in Schools does now at Reidsville High, and that is come into the school as mentors.

Sorry, dude, but I don't know much about the stats from other 2AA or 2A schools with similar success to Reidsville's. Shelby, Cummings, Clinton, Lincolnton, some of the Onslow County schools, come to mind. If you do come across with info about players from these schools, please share them with all of us, even the Reidsville coaching staff.

I don't know as much about Ram players from the previous 4 years as the current team, but there are several current Rams, African-American and Caucasian, that are enrolled in classes with the IB program at Reidsville High, and others taking other college prep classes. Check back in a few years and we can talk about these guys.

Rampride99,

Silly little insults will get you you nowhere fast in this world however it's indicative of your culture. First of all, I didn't say anything about his players entering the military, I said college so please don't try to cloud the issue. Name your 58! Whether or not they play football in college is not important to me, football is simply the vehicle (means, for you simple minded)to a college education. Does the truth anger you that you must use insulting language? Again, I ask do you think Coach Teague could win if he coached at Rockingham? Do you think Coach Stadler would change places with him? I wonder if the coach thinks about who got him to the dance while he plays golf on his free Country Club membership . He should do the honorable thing by helping those players get into college not the military as Rampride99 attempts to derail the issue.

It is difficult in this day and time for anyone to satisfy everyone. Success breeds both motivation and contempt. Those who are motivated to continue to succeed and contempt from those who would like to find a chink in the armor of success. A question was asked, Would Coach Teague succeed at RCHS? As a former coach, he would succeed and the reason he would is because he is a coach who adapts to his players. You can't put a round peg in a square hole.

Academically, it is not just on the coaches. Parents and community supporters need to be there for the kids also. Coaches can't get kids into college when they do not choose to be successful independently. Many a student-athlete even if fortunate to attend college, have come back because of personal motivation, or lack thereof.

To get these young men and women in college is a community effort. Remember, it takes a village to raise a child.

GO RAMS!!!!

To have a consistently winning football program, you must have good players and good coaches. One without the other will not work. To win a championship, you need a little luck too, along with school staff and parental support. A loyal fan base helps too.

ANONYMOUS, aobviously, you are a very arrogant yet so ignorant. What do you mean by "Its indicative of your culture?" You obvioulsy need to recieve tutoring of how to address certain situations and how to say ceratin things without being defensive to one's feelings.

Grow up

Grow up?Is that all you can say? That's the kind of small town mentality that keep this town dumb, deaf and blind. Iam raising an issue of these young men not getting proper counseling to continue their education and all you say is for me to grow up?Did you know that RHS has the worst graduation rate of any school in the county?I can certainly see why if you're a parent.
